Police allege a man struck two teens and fled the scene with a child, officials said.
GARLAND, Texas — A 14-year-old was killed and a 16-year-old was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash, Garland police said.
Garland police responded to a crash around 10:15 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of East Oates Road and Miami Drive, Garland police said in a press release. On arrival, officers found two victims in the roadway, a 14-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy, officials said.
The 14-year-old was pronounced dead on the scene and the 16-year-old was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, police said.
Officers located a 2005 Chevy Silverado on the scene with extensive damage and witnesses told police they saw a man running away from the vehicle with a child after the crash, the release states.
The suspect was later identified as 30-year-old Stetson Ybarbo or Rowlett, the release states.
Investigators found that the truck was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway, striking the teens and several parked cars near the intersection of Miami Drive, officials said.
Ybarbo was charged with two counts of failure to stop and render aid involving death and serious bodily injury, the release states. Police are investigating the incident and the names of victims have not been released, officials said.
