“Please ensure that you have working smoke detectors in your house,” PSFR said.

PAYNE SPRINGS, Texas — Eleven people were able to escape an early morning house fire in the Payne Springs area.

On Monday, around 3:50 a.m., Payne Springs Fire and Rescue was called to a structure fire on FM 316.

When crews arrived on scene, they found heavy fire in the back of the structure that was extending into the house.

“Interior crews faced heavy fire and a confusing interior layout due to multiple additions to the structure and the garage having been converted to a living space,” PSDR said.

Five adults and six children were able to escape with some suffering smoke inhalation and one even with minor burns. They all refused to be taken to the hospital. One dog died in the blaze.

“Please ensure that you have working smoke detectors in your house,” PSFR said. “The last five structure fires that we have responded to have not had any working smoke detectors installed.”
