14 shot at Juneteenth event in Texas as FBI are called in to find gunman

   

14 partygoers were shot at a Juneteenth celebration in Texas, with two dying as a result of their injuries.

]The incident happened on Saturday night at Old Settlers Park during the town’s yearly Juneteenth celebration, according to Round Rock police. There were reportedly several minors injured in the gunshots; the ages of those shot ranged from 10 to 62.

The gunman, identified as a black male who is thought to be in his 20s, is still being actively sought by police. He is described as being 5 feet 7 inches tall, skinny, and having short dreadlocks. As per the police, he was donning a white hoodie during the incident.

According to witnesses, the gunfire began when two groups started fighting close to the vendor area, according to KVUE-TV, a local ABC affiliate. It was just before 11 p.m. when someone pulled a gun during the big fight.

However, no one shot by the gun was involved in the altercation, according to the police. Following the gunshots, both parties left the scene, and the first responders who were there moved quickly to help. Several individuals with gunshot wounds, including children, received CPR and tourniquets from police and firefighting personnel on site during the celebration.

According to Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks, the identities of the deceased and injured will not be made public until a later time. “It is unfortunate that we were here celebrating a wonderful event and we have a tragedy that happens,” Banks said. “My thoughts and my prayers go out to the victims. My condolences go out to the families of the deceased.”

Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan noted that he understands “residents are devastated as they wake up to the terrible news.”

“To the families who are mourning the loss of loved ones, please know that our entire community mourns with you,” he said. “To those who were injured, we are here to support you in your recovery,” he continued.

The mayor assured his citizens that his administration and he are dedicated to making sure that everyone gets over this tragedy together. He stated that he feels Round Rock is a city that values safety, celebration, and unity.

“We will not let this incident define us, nor will we let fear take hold. Instead, we will support each other, offer help where it is needed and remain united in our resolve to make Round Rock a safe and welcoming place for all.”

Authorities are providing a $5,000 prize to anyone who comes forward with information on the shooting, including the shooter’s whereabouts and identity.
