18-year-old North Texas high schooler dies after accidentally shooting himself

 

18-year-old Royse City High School student Alexander Villegas died at the hospital after accidentally shooting himself, police say.

ROYSE CITY, Texas — An 18-year-old man has died after accidentally shooting himself, according to the Royse City Police Department.

RCPD has identified the man as Alexander Villegas, a student at Royse City High School.

Police say they responded to a 911 call at a home in the 6100 block of County Road 2597. The caller told police Villegas had shot himself in the abdomen.

When police arrived around 11 p.m., they spoke to Villegas, who told them he had been handling a handgun when it accidentally went off. According to RCPD, officers began administering first aid until paramedics and fire personnel arrived.

Police say Villegas was taken via ambulance to a local hospital, where he later passed away. Royse City Police say they are investigating the incident.
