2 girls among 4 dead following head-on collision in Parker County, Texas DPS says

Four people — a woman, a man and two 9-year-old girls — died after a head-on collision Sunday afternoon in Parker County, authorities say.

A woman was also seriously injured and hospitalized following the crash, the Texas Department of Public Safety said in a Monday news release.

The crash occurred shortly after 2:15 p.m., less than a mile south of the intersection of FM51 and Friendship Road, according to Texas DPS.

A white 2023 Subaru Legacy was headed south on FM 51 when it “veered” into the northbound lane and crashed “head-on” into a black Ford F-150, the department said in the release.

“It is unknown at this time why [the] 2023 white Subaru Legacy veered into the northbound lane,” the release stated.

The driver of the Subaru, identified as 29-year-old Kathryn Elizabeth Lain of Boyd, died, Texas DPS said.

Three people who were in the Ford F-150: Gregory Daniel Schilb, 66, and two 9-year-old girls, also died following the crash, according to the department. Authorities have not released the names of the two children.

Autumn Rae Reed, 42, who was driving the Ford truck, was seriously injured and taken to a Fort Worth-area hospital, the department said.

All four people who were in the Ford were from Springtown, a city about 25 miles northwest of downtown Fort Worth.

In a Monday morning Facebook post, Springtown ISD Superintendent Shane Strickland said two of the people who died following the crash were fourth grade students in the district.

According to the post, the woman who was severely injured in the crash is a teacher at Goshen Creek Elementary School. The teacher “is currently in stable condition but faces a long road to recovery,” the post read.

“Our hearts ache for the families of those we lost, for our entire district, and for our community as a whole. We are heartbroken to hear about any life that was lost during this tragedy. Life is so precious and way too short. During this difficult time, we ask that you hold them in your thoughts and prayers,” the post read.
