2 indicted for murder after child shot and killed in Dallas, officials say

The child was shot and killed in a vehicle in Dallas back in November, police say.

DALLAS — Two people were indicted for capital murder Thursday after a child was shot and killed in Dallas in November, court records show.

Police said the child was riding in a vehicle when they were shot in the 3500 block of Wilhurt Avenue shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 22. The child was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but died from their injuries on Dec. 26, police said.

Police said Davon Sewell, 18, and a juvenile were arrested in Dallas on Dec. 2 on a complaint of aggravated assault, which was dropped and upgraded to capital murder after the child died.

Jaden Watson, 18, was arrested by Balch Springs police on Dec. 8 and charged with aggravated assault, which was also dropped and later upgraded to capital murder, police said.

Watson and Sewell were indicted for capital murder of a person under 10 years old Thursday, court records show.

Sources previously told WFAA the shooting may have stemmed from a road rage incident in which people in two cars were shooting at each other. The family also previously told WFAA they believe the child’s injury was caused by mistaken identity because the child’s mother was driving a friend’s vehicle at the time of the shooting.
