SAN ANTONIO – A city panel has approved the plan for another tower to go up at Hemisfair.
The City of San Antonio Historic and Design Review Commission on Wednesday approved the conceptual design of a 29-story residential tower and a three-story retail building — the latest step forward in Hemisfar’s master plan of Civic Park.
City officials said the Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corporation is partnering with Post Lake Capital Partners for the ground lease and development. The project will be designed by FitzGerald Associates Architects.
The buildings will be on the northwest end of the park, near Alamo and Market streets and the convention center. Construction is slated to begin in the spring, according to a news release.
“Residential development in the Hemisfair District is key as we prepare for San Antonio’s population growth,” Hemisfair CEO Andres Andujar said in the release. “We are replacing the density of the population that lived in the District before HemisFair ’68 to bring back the neighborhood and the vitality that comes from people living next to open spaces. Neighbors use the park daily and bring a sense of security to the area.”
The tower will include studio, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, according to the release. It will also have an amenities deck and parking.
Just last month, the city panel approved the conceptual design for a 17-story, 200-room hotel, which will be owned and operated by Zachry Hospitality. Construction on the hotel, part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, is slated to start this fall.
The hotel will have a space for retail shops at the base, multiple restaurants, a rooftop bar and a ground-floor garden with public art.
The residential tower, retail building and hotel should be completed by 2025 for the NCAA Men’s Final Four, the release states.
Civic Park, which will have a promenade, water features and an event lawn, is expected to be finished by mid-2023.
