Three children died Friday evening in a multivehicle crash in Grayson County, officials said.
The crash occurred between Bells and Whitewright on U.S. Highway 69 at 7:20 p.m., according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety. A Hyundai Elantra, driven by 40-year-old Hyrum Grandy, was traveling southbound and veered onto the shoulder to avoid a crash as traffic slowed in front of it.
When Grandy reentered the southbound lane, he hit a Ford F-150 driven by 34-year-old Angel Martinez, the release said. Grandy’s vehicle then entered the northbound lane and was hit by a Chevrolet Silverado driven by Lane Recer, 29.
The three minor passengers of Grandy’s vehicle were killed in the crash — 10-year-old Alvin Grandy, 13-year-old Amara Grandy and 14-year-old Alexander Grandy. They were from Lone Oak.
No information was immediately available on the condition of the drivers. The investigation is ongoing, the release said.
