SAN ANTONIO – Three people are dead after a hit-and-run crash early Friday on the far South Side, according to San Antonio police.
A person was driving aggressively when their vehicle struck two other cars near U.S. Highway 281 and Roosevelt Avenue around 4:50 a.m., police said.
Three people were killed as a result of the crash. It’s not immediately clear which vehicles the individuals were in.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet identified the people killed, only that two are female and one is male.
A fourth individual was transported to a hospital in stable condition.
Police said the driver of the vehicle that caused the crash fled on foot and had not yet been found as of noon.
The highway was reopened around 11 a.m. after being closed for several hours.
Some neighbors who live in the area said this is far from the first accident they’ve seen.
Jeremy De La Cruz said he routinely doesn’t trust other drivers on Roosevelt.
“I look both ways but even then man, you’ve gotta look twice before you turn onto this road,” he said. “There are lights but I don’t think that’s going to slow anyone down”.
Another neighbor who didn’t want to be identified said he’s lived in the area for the last five years, and has noticed a rise in accidents and traffic congestion. He’s worried about safety in the area, both for himself and his son, who will soon have his drivers license.
“My son’s going near the driving age and I tell him ‘Look, you’ve gotta pay attention here, you’ll see it.’ Even though he’s in the passenger seat, I’ll just tell him to put his phone down and watch how people are driving because it’s kind of reckless here,” the neighbor said.
This is a developing story. KSAT will bring more information as it becomes available.
