4 in custody after shooting at Uvalde Memorial Park leaves 2 people injured, police say

UVALDE – Two juveniles are hospitalized after being shot at Uvalde Memorial Park Thursday evening, according to Uvalde police.

Officers were called to the area around 5 p.m., according to Uvalde police.

The victims’ conditions are unknown and both were transported via helicopter to a San Antonio hospital.

Police said they’re looking for a juvenile suspect in connection with the shooting and they do know his name, though it hasn’t been released publicly.

Authorities are assuring the community that it is “not a dangerous situation for the general public” and that there is no need to shelter in place.

State Sen. Roland Gutierrez said the Uvalde mayor believes it’s could be a gang-related shooting.

KSAT has a crew at the scene and we’ll bring more updates as they become available.

The shooting comes as the community is reeling and still on edge after the May 24 massacre at Robb Elementary School left 21 people dead, including 19 elementary students and two teachers.

Students in Uvalde ISD started school on Tuesday.
