SAN ANTONIO – School is in full swing and we are back to recognizing our area educators. For the month of August, we are shining a spotlight on a fourth grade teacher at Huebner Elementary.
Tracey Sawyer Moreno has been named KSAT’s Educator of the Month.
“It’s just amazing because you come to work just for fun and then these guys (the students) just add to it and to be recognized on top of that, it’s just the icing on top of the cake,” Moreno said. “It’s just so fun to be here and I just love these guys and I tell them I’ll keep teaching until it’s not fun anymore, so I try to make it more fun to entertain myself and to keep them engaged.”
Lena Marriott, a fourth grader at Huebner Elementary, said she is so happy to be in Mrs. Moreno’s class and she’s happy that her teacher is getting the recognition.
“I think she really deserves it,” Marriott said. “She’s such a good teacher and I’m really lucky to have her.”
“It’s nice,” said Brodie Beldon, another fourth grader. “She always understands what we’re trying to say. She always makes it fun whenever and we do little experiments and stuff that no one else really gets to do, which is really fun.”
Moreno has been at Huebner Elementary for 16 years and a fourth grade teacher for ten years.
“This is my favorite grade,” Moreno said. “I love Texas history. My whole family is fourth generation and my father’s a big Texas History man. He gives us a lot of stuff. We have a gunpowder holder from the war.”
And while Moreno has made it her mission to make learning fun for her students in the classroom, she says she is also building a foundation for them to keep up the learning in the future.
“I want my students to see that they’ve got so much more learning to do,” Moreno said. “I want them to go anywhere and everywhere in the world and learn.”
