Oklahoma Department of Public Safety says the boat was fueling up, but when the operator went to start it up, it sparked the gasoline fumes.
MADILL, Okla. — A 5-year-old boy was flown to Parkland Burn Center in Dallas from Lake Texoma after a boat explosion.
According to the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety, the operators of the boat were fueling up at Bridgeview Marina in Madill, Okla. around 2:45 p.m. on Sunday
Oklahoma DPS says when they finished fueling and went to start the boat up, a spark ignited gasoline fumes, causing an explosion and lighting the boat on fire.
Three people were on the boat at the time: a 51-year-old woman, a 25-year-old woman and a five-year-old boy, Oklahoma DPS claims. Both women were uninjured, but the five-year-old boy was burned on his arms and legs with minor burns to his face, Oklahoma DPS stated.
The boy was flown to Parkland Burn Center in Dallas nearly 100 miles away, where he remains in stable condition, authorities say.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating the explosion.
