8,000 people in North Texas without power after storms cause damage

Early morning storms knocked out power to thousands in North Texas Saturday morning.

ELLIS COUNTY, Texas — Thousands of households and businesses were without power Saturday morning after storms moved through North Texas.

About 8,200 people were without power across North Texas. Most of the outages stemmed from Ellis County where 7,100 people were without power around 11 a.m., according to Oncor’s outage map.

In a statement, Oncor said it was actively responding to outages caused by Saturday’s storms.

Isolated strong to severe storms are still possible until mid-afternoon, prompting WFAA’s weather team to extend Saturday’s WFAA Weather Alert Day until 1 p.m.

Oncor encourages customers to remain aware of the weather and follow local watches and warnings if they are issued.

To report an outage text OUT to 66267, use the MyOncor app, or select “Report an Outage” located above the map.

“Safety for our employees and the public is our number one priority,” Oncor said. “If you see a downed power line, stay away, keep others away, and call 911 immediately.”
