NEW BRAUNFELS – Mario De La Rosa will be the new executive director of safety and security of the Comal Independent School District, officials announced Monday.
De La Rosa brings expertise as a field agent and education leader to the district, with 27 years of experience in law enforcement and schools, according to a news release.
The new executive director’s law enforcement experience includes time as a U.S. Border Patrol agent, followed by service with U.S. Customs and the Department of Homeland Security as an ICE criminal investigator.
De La Rosa previously served in the same role at the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District and was the director of safety & security for Round Rock ISD.
As school safety remains a concern for parents across Texas following the tragic shooting in Uvalde, the district highlighted De La Rosa’s communication skills with the community.
De La Rosa is “accustomed to communicating with parents and coordinating with multiple law enforcement and emergency agencies during critical situations,” Comal ISD officials said in a news release.
The district said De La Rosa looks forward to working with and getting to know the Comal ISD community.
Acting Superintendent Mandy Epley released the following statement:
“We are excited to welcome Mr. De La Rosa to Comal ISD. He will continue our safety and security initiatives which focus on preventing and mitigating as many issues as we can so that our students feel safe and are able to reach their full potential.”
