The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant!
Oh wait, that’s baseball, 1951. You’d think that today’s game in Londontown was that important. Goodness. Based on the reaction of New York Giants fans throughout social media, the Giants won a Super Bowl or something.
Today, the Giants, the team that won four games in 2021, a team that hasn’t been relevant in about a decade, beat the Packers in London. The game was played in front of a packed crowd of US ex-pats and Londoners looking to get drunk, eat fish and French fries (called “chips,” I am told), and watch some “fooootball.” The Giants beat the heavily favoured Packers 27 to 22, matching their win total for 2021. (I added a “u,” because that is what the English do to our language.)
Giants fans (apparently, there are a lot of them) were happy that their team whipped the dreaded Aaron Rodgers. The Giants beat Rodgers, with batted balls and ravel-dazzle plays, in an upset win. On social media, fans were calling Rodgers “Fraudgers,” and made fun of him with various insults. “Goat…HAHAHA!. You’re a fraud, Rodgers! Go home, you dandy!”
The Packers led by 14 in the first quarter, only to see Daniel Jones pilot the injury-addled team back to an unexpected win, ruining many a Vegas parley. Playing on an injured wheel, Jones completed 21 of 27 passes for 217 yards-and 37 yards for unexpected Fantasy league points, if anyone had him playing this week. Also missing from the Giants’ roster were four of the Giants receivers. So, they were down to Notre Dame’s “Rudy,” and a dude they pulled out of the stands.
As I was writing this, my wife walked in to interrupt me with some important stuff. She showed me a video of two tandem ice skaters-an 83-year-old and a 79-year-old-ice-dancing. I was told he (apparently) invented the figure skating “Death Spiral.” I had a couple of jokes that my wife didn’t find funny. I stopped to watch gramps and his mate’s “death spiral,” slowly, across the ice. Men are from Mars…Women are from Hallmark movies.
Back to writing about American football in the U.K.
The Giants were gutty. They won, so that means they were gutty. Rodgers bounced a bunch of passes off of Giants linemen, which was fun to watch. In the fourth quarter, Rodgers marched his Packers down the field, only to see his passes bounce off of Giants in the red zone.
The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant!
