It’s fashionable these days for Democrats, taking their cues from President Biden, to paint Republicans as fascists and the pro-life stance as “extreme.” But a quick review of the parties’ stances on abortion reveals which of the two is actually extreme.
Republicans have been pro-life (and thus, anti-abortion) for decades. Until recently, quite a few Democrats were pro-life, as well. This is no longer acceptable according to Democratic leaders, though . And they’ve gone from advocating for abortion to be “safe, legal, and rare,” to championing it right up until the moment of birth – something that polling shows very few Americans (of either political stripe) support.
In fact, a recent poll for National Review showed that 57 percent of respondents thought allowing abortion for any reason until birth was more extreme than restricting abortion to cases of rape, incest, or life of the mother, while only 29 percent thought the reverse. That’s a two-to-one difference.
Granted, from a truly and consistently pro-life perspective, rape and incest shouldn’t qualify as exceptions. Yet, how many pro-abortion Democrats, if offered those exceptions as a compromise, would agree to accept them? I’ve yet to see any who would – while many Republicans do favor such exceptions.
So tell me again, who are the extremists?
