We’re now down in the final stretch of the midterms, and the top issue for Americans going into voting is — not surprisingly — the crushing inflation.
That issue is already hurting the Democrats badly because most people blame Joe Biden and the Democrats for overspending.
But now, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC) just made an admission that is going to do them in. He appeared on MSNBC on Thursday with Jos? D?az-Balart, who asked him about Americans’ concerns about the rising prices of everything. Republicans should run his response on a constant loop in every remaining ad between now and the election, particularly in battleground states. He admitted they knew all along rising prices would result from their “recovery” plan.
“All of us are concerned about these rising costs,” Clyburn said. “All of us knew this would be the case when we put in place this recovery program. Any time you put more money into the economy, prices tend to rise.”
Well, if you knew it, why did you do it? They cared about their agenda and not the effect that it would have on Americans — that’s the bottom line. This should sink them. It does in any claim that they didn’t understand what was going on and they were just stupid. No, they made a conscious choice and did it anyway. How much Americans are hurting is all on them.
I don’t know whether he got what he admitted there, but he then tried to lay off blame on the war in Ukraine and OPEC+ cutting oil production, despite the fact inflation has been ongoing long before the Russians invaded Ukraine in February and the OPEC+ effect likely hasn’t even started yet. He also praised the Inflation Reduction Act which does nothing to reduce inflation.
Clyburn not only said the quiet part out loud about what the Democrats did, but he also insulted Americans in the bargain with the way he further tried to spin what Democrats had done and diminished the importance of voters’ concerns.
“I don’t know of anybody who will say I would rather pay $10 or even 10 cents or even 20 cents less per gallon and allow you to take my rights away, my voting rights away and these other things that we know the other party is doing to suppress votes. That’s a fool’s choice we will not make.”
“But why ask people to make that choice?” Diaz-Balart pushed back. “In other words, does economic policy necessarily equate what you’re talking about?”
“Economic policy is always a concern. Look, I came out of a household that had difficulty with voting rights … People are voting on more than whether or not you run up the cost of gasoline.”
So the Democrats knew they were going to drive up prices, but their excuse is the fake claim that voting rights were somehow in danger? One thing has nothing to do with the other. What voting rights are in danger? Clyburn can’t list anything specific, he just vaguely pushes the Democratic talking point about Republicans suppressing voter rights. We saw what a lie this was in Georgia where Democrats had claimed the new voting law there was “Jim Crow 2.0” yet voters came out in record numbers.
While Clyburn pushes ridiculous Democratic talking points, he’s missing how angry and concerned Americans are about inflation. The numbers just out from a new Morning Consult poll show that 93 percent are concerned and the poll also shows when it comes down to it that Americans trust Republicans more than they do Democrats on the issue.
Democrats need to get voted out for this and that poll is just another indication that the red wave coming.
