Andrea J. Boudreaux, PsyD, MPH, FACHE, has been named a 2022 Diversity Leader to Watch by Modern Healthcare. She currently serves as executive director of Children’s School Services at Children’s National Hospital where she oversees health outcomes and access for 90,000 children in the Washington, D.C., area.
Since graduating from the Texas A&M University School of Public Health where she serves on the Alumni Advisory Board, Boudreaux has provided progressive leadership in some of the nation’s largest health care organizations. Most recently, she served as a senior partner with Manhattan-based JCG Consulting Group, where she led all clinical transformation efforts with clients across the nation to improve care delivery, as well as COVID-19 response and operations management. In that capacity, Boudreaux led a 19-state service line development, opened an integrated clinic for the treatment of hepatitis C patients, and redesigned a care delivery model for a regional health plan.
“While at the School of Public Health, I learned the significance of outreach and the importance of investment in marginalized communities. Many of our programs and research were around improving access in communities that had historically been under resourced,” Boudreaux said. “I continue that work at Children’s National Hospital as we seek to identify the most comprehensive care delivery for the children of Washington, D.C., especially in communities east of the river. Wards 7 and 8 have the poorest health outcomes in the district and the densest population. Every investment we place there will make significant impact in health outcomes.”
Most recently, Boudreaux developed an algorithm to help identify where resources should be deployed and a strategy to support the most vulnerable populations.
“I’m proud to be an alum of a school that is more like a family, and that taught me how to fight for those who are ignored,” she said.
As a tireless advocate of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, Boudreaux has focused on helping organizations operationalize diversity. As a regional chief diversity officer with HCA, she was instrumental in improving patient outcomes and expanding services across the $50-billion organization.
“Diversity, equity and inclusion is about more than simply hiring minorities,” Boudreaux said. “It is about transforming business practices to specifically outreach to underserved communities.”
“Dr. Andrea Boudreaux is a wonderful champion of public health, especially for those in marginalized communities,” said School of Public Health Dean Shawn Gibbs. “The Texas A&M School of Public Health is lucky to count her as an alumna, and I am honored that she serves on our Alumni Advisory Board. She is truly deserving of this honor, and I know she will only continue to do more great things to improve public health and those communities that she serves.”
A medical psychologist by training, Boudreaux spent nearly a decade in clinical practice working diligently to improve the health of children and adolescents through the integration of behavioral health and primary care. Her research interests include the integration of spirituality and religion, psychotherapy and addressing the underutilization of mental health services, especially within the African American community.
