If your New Year celebration was the same ol’ routine, there is still an opportunity to celebrate a new year in a new way.
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — If your New Year celebration was the same ol’ routine, there is still an opportunity to celebrate a new year in a new way.
Starting this Friday, Asia Times Square in Grand Prairie will hold celebrations each weekend leading up to the Lunar New Year on January 22.
“Our mission is preserving tradition and promoting culture,” said Matthew Loh with Asia Times Square. “We are trying to replace ignorance with acceptance.”
The year 2023 will be celebrated as both the Year of the Rabbit and the Year of the Cat. Animals Loh said represent hope and peace.
This will be the 16th year the shopping center home to Asian own restaurants and businesses will celebrate Lunar New Year the way it is in most Asian countries. Dozens of vendors and performers will highlight the event along with the food, the giving tree, the lion dances and all the other traditions. Loh hopes to see people take part in the celebration even if Lunar New Year is not something they typically observe.
“Come out and celebrate with us,” said Loh. “We welcome you. We are much more alike than we are not.”
