FORT WORTH, Texas — A Wisconsin man has been arrested in the fatal shooting outside of a Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Fort Worth earlier this month, police confirmed.
Simon Warren, 25, of Milwaukee, faces a murder charge in the case, according to police and court records.
Gerrod Dorn died in the shooting.
According to the Fort Worth Police Department, officers responded to a reported shooting on Jan. 3 in the 9500 block of Sage Meadow Trail around 12:20 p.m.
Police said the incident began as a hit-and-run at a nearby Olive Garden Restaurant, where the hit-and-run victim began to follow the person who struck their vehicle.
Police said both drivers stopped in front of the Dick’s Sporting Goods at Sage Meadow Trail and exchanged gunfire. Police said the victim of the hit-and-run shot the other driver. When officers arrived, the shooting victim was taken to the hospital.
Police said the victim later died from their injuries.
Alliance Town Center visitor Tammy Cheatham comes to the same area on a regular basis. She has never really been concerned about her safety in this part of Fort Worth.
“It’s nice, quiet, very safe,” described Cheatham.
So, when she saw the heavy police presence Tuesday afternoon, it through her for a loop. She knew right away it had to be something really serious.
“I just walked in to get my nails done, and I saw the police and asked what happened, and they said it was a shooting right across the street,” she said.
The investigation is ongoing. Crime scene workers collected evidence, including a handgun found on the ground near the two cars. At this time, police have not released any information concerning an arrest.
“I could not believe, it’s crazy, not here,” said Cheatham.
