Man arrested in connection to shooting death of 16-year-old girl found in Oak Cliff creek, police say

Dallas police said officers found the girl with multiple gunshot wounds.

DALLAS — Editor’s note: The video published above is a WFAA report from earlier this week, when we spoke to a neighbor about the incident.

Dallas police have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection to the death of a 16-year-old girl who was dead in a creek in Oak Cliff on Monday.

The girl, identified as Venus Rodriguez, was found with multiple gunshot wounds around 10:05 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, police said. Police arrested Arturo Flores, who was booked into the Dallas County Jail Saturday morning on a murder charge.

Officers responded to a call about a body in a creek on Monday in the 1700 block of Brookhaven Drive, between South Zang Boulevard and Interstate 35E.

WFAA spoke with a concerned neighbor about the incident.

“That was a daughter, you know what I’m saying,” a concerned neighbor told WFAA.

The neighbor asked not to be identified but shared the 16-year-old girl’s body was found near his home, and he described hearing gunfire while he was in his living room.

“It was about three to four shots,” he said. “Pow, pow, pow, pow.”

The neighbor said he stayed inside, especially because it happened in the middle of the night.

“It was somewhere between 2 o’clock and 2:30. I heard shots, which is not unusual in this neighborhood. But I didn’t think anything of it,” he said. “Then, the next morning they had everything blocked off, and they said they were doing an investigation.”

He learned a worked crew called 911 around 10 a.m.

“Wow, what’s going on, a 16-year-old?” he said. “I am still kind of messed up behind it right now. A kid, someone has lost their kid.”
