Breaking: 34-year-old man sentenced to 40 years for 2020 fatal shooting

VICTORIA, Texas – On Wednesday, Jan. 18, Jose Gonzales, Jr., 34, pleaded guilty to the offense of Murder. A jury sentenced Gonzales to 40 years in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

A Victoria County Grand Jury charged Gonzales with Murder and Tampering with Physical Evidence following the Oct. 27, 2020 fatal shooting of Aqucraigis Watson outside of Burdogz Bar and Grill. Along with eyewitnesses to the offense, Victoria Police Department Investigators located clothing items worn by Gonzales at the time of the shooting in the dumpster of a local business.

According to a press release from the Office of Constance Filley Johnson, Gonzales must serve one half of his sentence before being considered for parole.

On Monday, Jan. 23, family members of the victim addressed Gonzales in court by reading their victim impact statements. District Attorney Constance Filley Johnson prosecuted the case, while Judge El? Garza presided over the plea.
