Starting on June 5, Austin attorneys will be able to receive attorney parking cards for the Travis County Civil and Family Courts Facility, the Austin Bar Association announced Wednesday.
“We have been studying the parking situation for the past several months and believe we have the space to allow for attorney parking,” District Judge Amy Clark Meachum said in an announcement distributed by the Austin Bar. “However, this is a pilot program to make sure we will have enough spaces and can continue to maintain a safe and secure building for all of Travis County.”
To apply for their CFCF Parking Card, attorneys must first receive a letter from the Austin Bar that demonstrates (1) proof of their Austin Bar Association membership and (2) completion of technology training at the CFCF. Attorneys will be required to have their photo taken on the first floor of the CFCF by a sheriff’s deputy and then be issued an attorney parking card. Attorneys are welcome to make an appointment to obtain a parking card by calling 512-854-9638. The photo ID office for the Travis County Sheriff’s Office will also be open between 3 and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday (excluding county holidays).
At the time of the TCSO appointment, attorneys will need to have the following: (1) government-issued photo identification and (2) the ABA letter showing proof of membership. Once issued, attorneys will need the attorney parking card in their possession and must display it to the parking attendant to enter the CFCF parking garage on San Antonio Street.
According to the announcement, Travis County personnel and jurors have priority parking in the CFCF garage, so daily attorney parking is subject to availability. In addition, drivers must follow the instructions from the Travis County parking attendant on duty at the time of their arrival.
Street parking continues to be available around the CFCF, as well as a fee-based University of Texas system parking garage on 17th Street.
