SAN ANTONIO – A man was shot and killed as he got his hair cut at North Star Mall on Sunday afternoon, according to San Antonio police.
SAPD public information officer Nick Soliz said two gunmen went up to the victim in the barber shop and shot him “in cold blood” just after 3 p.m. The man, believed to be in his early 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Details are still limited, and the investigation is ongoing, but Soliz said they believe it was a targeted attack.
“Although I said it was an active investigation, our victim’s getting a haircut on a Sunday at the mall, and two suspects come in and shoot him in cold blood in the middle of the day,” he said. “I think at this time we have reason to believe it is in fact a targeted situation.”
The suspects fled the scene. Officers canvassed the area but were unable to locate them, Soliz said.
Police said at no time was there an active shooter at the mall, and no one else was injured.
The mall will be closed for the rest of the day.
Soliz said this incident is not connected to two other targeted shootings that happened in recent days across the city.
On Friday, a targeted drive-by shooting at an apartment complex in the 5100 block of Eisenhauer Road left four people hospitalized. Those victims included a 5-year-old boy, a 16-year-old boy, a 15-year-old boy and a 60-year-old woman.
On Saturday, an 18-year-old man was killed during a shootout at an apartment complex in the 1500 block of Upland Road. That man has since been identified as Geremiah Hardeman.
“There has been a lot of shootings but in no way are they related,” he said.
