SAN ANTONIO – A man is in custody and facing charges after he threatened a guard and barricaded himself at the Toyota Plant early Saturday morning, according to San Antonio police.
The incident happened around 5:30 a.m. Saturday at 1 Lone Star Pass on the city’s South Side.
Police said the man barricaded himself inside the guard shack after he refused to leave and threatened a guard with a lock-blade knife. SAPD said he also took the guard’s phone before he holed up.
SWAT responded to the scene, and after roughly 4 hours of negotiations, they deployed tear gas to clear the shack and detain the man.
Other than the shack, police said the man did not step foot on the plant.
SAPD said the man will be charged with aggravated robbery, criminal trespass, and criminal mischief.
A spokesperson with Toyota released a statement on the incident.
“Earlier today a non-production related incident occurred near the south entrance at Toyota Texas. The scene has been contained, and no personnel have been impacted. We are cooperating with local law enforcement on the active investigation,” officials said.
