Meow Wolf plans Houston location, collaborates with 40+ Texas artists on exhibits

HOUSTON (KXAN) — Meow Wolf, a company known for its colorful, other-worldly immersive art exhibits, is bringing its fifth permanent installation to Houston, marking Texas’ second city to open one of the attractions.

While Meow Wolf announced its Houston project last year, it recently released more details about what visitors can expect when its spot opens later this year.

The new location, which will find its home in Houston’s Fifth Ward, will feature works from more than 40 Texas-based artists, according to Meow Wolf’s website.

Among the artists are Houston rapper Fat Tony, international art activist Kill Joy, the Fifth Ward’s own El Franco Lee II and many more. The full list of artists, along with some of their works, is viewable online.

“We open portals of possibility for our participants, for our employees, for our artists, and for our communities. We try to make people see life in a different way,” Meow Wolf CEO Jose Tolosa said at the groundbreaking ceremony last year. “We are about creating impact. Community matters to us. The underrepresented artist matters to us. Creating jobs matters to us.”

Meow Wolf has permanent installations in Santa Fe, Las Vegas, Denver and most recently Grapevine, which opened last summer. It also brought a temporary “interdimensional portal” to South by Southwest in 2022.

The company did not specify an opening date for the Houston location but said it will be open sometime in 2024.
