Austin park voted as ‘hidden gem’ for dogs in Texas

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Houston, Austin and Dallas have new bragging rights in the Lone Star State following a survey searching for hidden gem dog parks in the United States.

Technobark, a company that writes about pet technology and gadgets, surveyed 3,000 dog owners across the country and released a list of the top 120 Hidden Gem Dog Parks. On that list were three Texas dog parks that were voted the best “hidden gems” in the state.

“Each park to make our ranking is a paw-pr inted pathway to delight and discovery,” said Gary Nealon of Technobark.com. “The best treasures are often found off the beaten path, so we hope our study helps dog owners to sniff out new adventures and create unforgettable memories with their furry friends.”

In Texas, coming in at No. 26 was Eisenhower Park in Houston. The park offers an off-leash area that provides dogs with plenty of space to romp and socialize with grassy fields and shade trees, according to the survey.

“Eisenhower Park also features walking trails and scenic views, providing a serene setting for dogs and their owners to enjoy outdoor recreation,” Technobark said.

At No. 35 was Red Bud Isle in Austin. The “hidden gem” is located near Lady Bird Lake, previously known as Town Lake.

“Dogs can roam off-leash in this scenic park, exploring wooded trails and splashing in the water,” Technobark said. “The park provides a natural and tranquil environment for dogs to enjoy, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.”

Ranking in the top 50 was NorthBark Dog Park in Dallas, coming in at No. 49. The off-leash park has separate areas for large and small dogs and includes plenty of space for dogs to run and play.

“NorthBark Dog Park also provides walking trails, agility equipment, and a pond for dogs who enjoy swimming,” Technobark said.

According to the survey, the top 10 included:

  1. Prospect Dog Park, New York
  2. Hartwood Acres Dog Park, Pennsylvania
  3. Moanalua Dog Park, Hawaii
  4. Shelby Farms Dog Park, Tennessee
  5. Puptown Dog Park, Illinois
  6. Bear Creek Dog Park, Colorado
  7. Shirlington Dog Park, Virginia
  8. Marymoor Off-Leash Dog Park, Washington

Technobark said the goal of the survey and list was to highlight the “unsung sanctuaries for pets and their owners.”
