Is Kamala Harris campaigning? It seems like we haven’t seen too much of her, while the folks behind the scenes have upped Joe Biden’s forays out into communities. Of course, that hasn’t helped the Biden-Harris campaign much, because the more people see of Joe Biden, the more I think they will flee from voting for him and Kamala, come the election.

But as our friends at Twitchy found, she did make a comment on X that is doubtless geared toward vote-gathering. But, it may have had the opposite effect as it unintentionally highlights her problematic history on the issue she tweeted about – marijuana laws.
“Nobody should have to go to jail for smoking weed,” Harris declared. “We must continue to change our nation’s approach to marijuana while reforming the justice system so it finally lives up to its name.”
She’s trying to appeal to the decriminalization of weed crowd with the tweet. She even posted it on 4/20, a day geared toward celebrating pot. Add that to Biden’s effort to buy votes with the canceling of student loan debt and it’s all about them pandering and saying whatever they can to try to remain in power.
Except, as many people noted in response, there’s a small problem with Harris’s background on this matter: She has a well-known history of convictions related to marijuana offenses that she seems to want to forget or ignore here.

Her tweet also earned a Community Note busting her on the subject, which talked about the more than1900 convictions for possession, cultivation or sale of pot while she was the San Francisco District Attorney. (although the Note seems to have disappeared in the meantime from her post). It is captured here:
Elon Musk enjoyed the Community Note.
But he needs to figure out why it’s disappeared.
That wasn’t Harris’ only problem on the subject.
While running for state attorney general in 2010, Harris opposed a state-wide ballot measure to green light marijuana use, calling the initiative “flawed public policy.”
Harris also admitted to smoking weed in college during a radio interview while running for president and ticked off her father, the Jamaican-born Donald Harris, when she invoked her heritage while saying she would support pot legalization.
“Half my family’s from Jamaica,” Harris said. “Are you kidding me?”

She was also infamously nuked by Tulsi Gabbard during the Democratic primary debates for the 2020 election.
