Two people were killed and four others were injured during a shooting at Historic Market Square early Sunday morning, San Antonio police said.
The shooting happened around midnight near a stage in the 100 block of Concho Alley.
Police said officers near the stage heard a gunshot and saw an 18-year-old man running away. While two officers ran after the 18-year-old, one officer said he saw the man fire and strike a 20-year-old man.
The officers then fired multiple rounds at the 18-year-old man. The 18-year-old was hit and later pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The 20-year-old man was taken to a nearby hospital where he also was pronounced dead, according to SAPD.
Four bystanders, all women, were also shot at the scene, according to police. An SAPD spokesperson told KSAT that “two were transported with non-life-threatening injuries and the other two were checked out and released at the scene.”
SAPD did not say whether the bystanders were hit by the suspects’ gunfire or by police gunfire.
Videos posted by witnesses showed people crouching and running during the chaos.
On Sunday, businesses at Market Square appeared to be as usual.
At the entrance, there are signs reminding people of what’s not allowed inside, including drinks, food, and firearms.
There isn’t any security check enforcing the rules.

“Do you think security procedures need to change during Fiesta at Market Square?” asked reporter Daniela Ibarra.
“I definitely think we’ll take a look at them right after and do an analysis,” responded District 1 Councilwoman Sukh Kaur. “I think we need to do that for all of our events. “
Fiesta De Los Reyes is closing earlier on Sunday because of the shooting.
“Safety is and always will remain our top priority,” said a post shared by event organizers.
SAPD initially said six people were injured but later corrected that information to four people.
The names of each suspect are not yet known.
