A&M men’s tennis hosts Rice in the first round of NCAA Tournament

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The Texas A&M men’s tennis team will host the Rice Owls in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday, May 3, at the Mitchell Tennis Center with first serve set for 1 p.m.

“This is always the most exciting time of the season,” head coach Steve Denton said. “The guys are training well and looking forward to playing in front of the 12th Man. It should be a great weekend of tennis as we share the courts with the women’s team. I am expecting a big turnout to give our team the home court advantage.”

The Maroon & White (18-10) are hosting regionals for the ninth time in 11 years and are looking to increase their first-round matchup win streak to 17. The Aggies are led by a pair of 2024 All-SEC First Team selections in Raphael Perot and JC Roddick who have been mainstays on courts 1 and 2, respectively, this season.

A&M is 38-5 in the all-time series against Rice (17-8) with the last win coming during the 2022-23 season in Aggieland. The Owls are coming off a loss against Memphis in the AAC Tournament Semifinals.

If the Aggies defeat Rice, they will take on the winner of the Baylor-San Diego matchup in the second round on Saturday at 4 p.m. Fans can view live stats at 12thman.com and keep up with regional action here.
