PEARLAND, Texas – Texas A&M’s Adela Cernousek won the U.S. Open Qualifier at the Golfcrest Country Club on Tuesday, securing a spot at the 79th U.S. Women’s Open Championship May 30-June 2.
The junior fired a 6-under 138 in the two-round qualifier and won the tournament by one stroke. In the first round, she carded a stunning 7-under 65 with a 31 on the back nine and never gave up the lead after the final 18. Former All-American and All-SEC standout Hailee Cooper finished fourth and earned an alternate spot for the U.S. Open.
The U.S. Open will take place in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, at Lancaster Country Club. Cernousek leads the Aggies with a 70.07 stroke average, which is on pace to shatter the single season program record. The Antibes, France, native was selected to the All-SEC First Team for the first time in her career this season and was chosen to compete at the prestigious 2024 Arnold Palmer Cup.
Cernousek and the Aggies are set to hit the course at the 2024 NCAA Championships in Carlsbad, California, May 17-22. Texas A&M has advanced to the semifinals of the tournament each of the last two years. Cernousek finished tied for 14th last season at NCAAs in stoke play and has a perfect 3-0 record in match play throughout her career on the big stage.
