HOLY HAIL! Potentially record-breaking hailstone falls in Texas Panhandle

VIGO PARK, Texas – A hailstone found in the Texas Panhandle could potentially break the record for the largest hailstone ever found to have fallen in Texas.

The hailstone was found on June 2 near the community of Vigo Park in Swisher County, a county between Amarillo and Lubbock.

It was found by Val and Amy Castor, veteran storm trackers for KWTV News 9 out of Oklahoma City.

Val Castor shared photos on his Facebook page of the potentially record-breaking hailstone. He measured it next to a Monster Energy can and said it came out to 7.25 inches.

If confirmed, the hailstone would shatter the current Texas record of 6.4 inches, which fell in Hondo, Texas in 2021.
