High temperatures in Dallas-Fort Worth were expected to top 100 degrees Thursday, prompting officials to encourage people to be cautious.
The National Weather Service in Fort Worth issued a heat advisory for all of North and Central Texas through 7 p.m.
Meteorologists encouraged folks to limit the amount of time they spend outdoors during the warmest part of the day. They also advised to drink plenty of water, take plenty of breaks from outside in the air conditioning or shade, never leave kids or pets unattended in vehicles and know the signs of heat-related illnesses.
The hottest temperatures of the day were expected to range between 93 and 103 degrees with heat index values, or “feels like” temperatures, climbing to upwards of 112.
Low temperatures are likely to remain in the low 80s each day.
Wednesday’s low temperature of 82 degrees tied a daily record for June 26 as the highest minimum temperature at DFW Airport, according to historical data. The record was set in 2023.
Hot and humid weather is here to stay through the weekend and early next week, the forecast shows. High temperatures in Dallas-Fort Worth are expected to hover between 100 and 102 with the heat index a between 105 and 110.
There’s a low chance of storms on Sunday, north and northeast of Dallas, but most areas are expected to stay dry, according to the weather service.
