Beryl continues inland after making landfall near Matagorda

  

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • No rain in San Antonio expected from Beryl. It’ll be a warm, dry, and breezy Monday
  • Beryl made landfall near Matagorda shortly after 4 a.m. Monday morning as a Category 1 hurricane with winds of 80 mph
  • Monday, Beryl will move inland across all of east Texas, gradually weakening
  • Houston and Galveston have had damaging wind gusts and storm surge Monday morning. Flooding rains of 4-6″ with pockets of 10+” are possible from the Houston metro area through Texarkana
  • While staying dry Monday, San Antonio should see scattered (40%) rain Tuesday afternoon

As of Monday morning, Beryl has made landfall along the coast. Continuing inland, it will brought damaging gusts to the Houston metro area and will weaken significantly as it moves through east Texas. Areas as far north at Bryan/College Station will see gusts up to 60 mph.

Flooding rains of 4-6 inches are expected from Houston up through Texarkana. Some areas within this region may see around 10 inches or more of rain. By Tuesday morning, Beryl will weaken into a tropical depression and will have moved out of Texas.


BERYL’S IMPACT FOR SAN ANTONIO METRO MONDAY, July 8:

Beryl is too far east to bring any rain to our metro area. The biggest impact from Beryl locally will be breezy northerly winds with a few gusts up to 25-30 mph.

Even though we will not see any rain from Beryl Monday, and few scattered (40%) showers and storms are possible for San Antonio Tuesday afternoon. Otherwise, it’ll be a warm week with highs in the mid-90s.
