Michigan mother and baby rescued by US Border Patrol in Texas

LAREDO, Texas — A missing Michigan mother and her baby were rescued by US Border Patrol agents near the Interstate 35 checkpoint on July 6, 2024.

Agents encountered the woman and her baby walking barefoot on a ranch, according to a press release from the US Border Patrol Laredo Sector. The mother and child, who had been reported missing earlier this month, were transported to safety and provided with medical services. They were later turned over to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office.

The Webb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the woman, identified through a Michigan driver’s license, had run out of gas while traveling to South Padre Island. Border Patrol agents verified she was the mother reported missing to the Wyoming Police Department on July 3, 2024. Both were taken to a local hospital for evaluation and subsequently returned to Wyoming, Michigan, by their family.

“I thank the United States Border Patrol for their quick response, and I commend my deputies for their efforts in coordinating with the woman’s family to ensure her and her baby’s safety,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar. “Let this serve as a reminder to everyone to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity by calling 956-415-BUST (2878).”
