50-year-old man dies while hiking at Grand Canyon

   

According to the National Parks Service, around 2 p.m. they received reports of an unresponsive hiker on Bright Angel Trail.

GRAND CANYON, Ariz — A 50-year-old man died while hiking at the Grand Canyon on Sunday.

According to the National Parks Service, around 2 p.m. the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received reports of an unresponsive hiker on Bright Angel Trail, roughly 100 feet below the trailhead. 

People nearby had started CPR and medical personnel responded but the hiker died, officials said. 

The hiker was a 50-year-old man from San Angelo, Texas, who was attempting to reach the rim from an overnight stay at Havasupai Gardens.

An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the NPS in coordination with the Coconino County Medical Examiner.
