COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Texas A&M high jumper Lamara Distin will be representing Jamaica at the Paris Olympics later this summer. While she will be stepping onto the largest stage to compete next month, Wednesday she was working out at Cushing Stadium on the Texas A&M campus under the hot Texas sun with no fame fare.
She knows that the hard work she puts in with no one watching might make her Olympic dream come true.
“That’s the dream,” said Distin during practice this morning.
Lamara concluded her collegiate career last month at the NCAA Championships. She has won 5 SEC Championships and broke the NCAA Indoor High Jump record when shen became the first collegiate woman to clear 2 meters (6′ 6 3/4″).
Distin always dreamed of competing in the Olympics and is excited to have qualified for the Paris Olympics.
“I’m really excited with it being my first Olympics. I’m just super happy and super grateful to be able to make it in my first Olympic team,” said Distin Wednesday morning ahead of her workout in College Station.
The women’s high jump final will Sunday August 4th starting at 12:50pm.
