AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — The Texas Department of Public Safety held a special ceremony at the Texas Panhandle War Memorial Center to honor fallen Trooper Matthew Myrick.
A tactical marine unit was dedicated to Myrick.
Trooper Myrick was stationed in Hereford and had been with DPS since 2003.
He was killed in a crash in January 2006 when he lost control of his patrol unit while responding to an accident.
Myrick was the 224th DPS officer killed in the line of duty.
The tactical marine unit will be stationed along the Texas border serving to protect the state and prevent criminal activity such as human trafficking and drug smuggling.
