Get ready for a new school year at these back-to-school giveaways across Bexar County, surrounding areas

  

SAN ANTONIO – School districts have released their school supply lists, so it’s that time of year to plan for the new 2024-2025 academic school year.

To help families transition to the new school year, several community organizations and districts will be hosting back-to-school giveaways, and some are offering free health screenings and vaccinations.

Here is the list of organizations and school districts participating in the giveaways.

  • Bread of Life Ministries Church: The church will host a Back-to-School Giveaway from 10- 11 a.m. on Aug. 10 at 2419 Rigsby Ave. There will be free book bags and school supplies while supplies last.
  • Centro Cristiano Internacional: The church will host a Back-to-School Community Resource and Health Fair from 9 a.m.- noon on Aug. 17 at 4151 Culebra Road. The fair will include free backpacks and school supplies, Metro Health will be providing vaccines, goodie bags for children, photo ops and snacks. Children must be present.
  • Cibolo Valley Baptist Church: The church will host a Back-To-School Bash from 5-7 p.m. on Aug. 14 and distribute school supplies to kindergarten through fifth-grade students. The bash will also include family-friendly activities such as a bounce house, water slide, games, backdrop, face painting and more. The church is located at 5500 FM 1103.
  • Davis-Scott Family YMCA: The Back-to-School Bash will host a school supply giveaway, while supplies last, from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. at 1213 Iowa St. Children must be present to receive supplies.
  • District 1: A Back-to-School Bash will be from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. on Aug. 10 at Edison High School at 701 Santa Monica St. The event will have free school supplies along with immunizations, paletas, raffles and music with 104.5 Latino Hits.
  • District 4: The Back-to-School Resource Fair will be from 8- 11 a.m. on Aug. 10 at Grace Baptist Church at 2514 Observation Dr. There will be free resources, immunizations, school supplies and backpacks. You can call the District 4 office at 210-207-0880 for more information.
  • District 5: Westside Family YMCA will host a Back-to-School Fair from 9 a.m.- noon on Aug. 10 at 2900 Ruiz St. The fair is a first-come, first-served basis for free backpacks and school supplies. Vaccines will also be available at the event. Students must be present to claim the items.
  • Farmers Insurance: The Gerardo A. Perez Agency will host a Back-to-School Giveaway from 10 a.m.- noon on Aug. 10 at 11550 IH 10 West. Free backpacks, school supplies, raffles and more will be available at the event.
  • Flagship Health: A Back-to-School Giveaway for senior grandparents can take their grandchildren to receive free school supplies from 1- 3 p.m. on Aug. 9 at 7616 Culebra Rd. Reserve your spot here.
  • Frost Bank Center: Students and teachers in grades K-12 can attend the free SS&E Back-to-School Bash from 4- 7 p.m. on Aug. 8 at 1 Frost Bank Center Drive. The event will offer school supplies, vaccines, vision checks, dental screenings, haircuts by appointment, and information booths for school enrollment, extracurricular activities and mental health support.
  • Gospel Vision: The 21st annual Back-to-School event will be from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Aug. 17 at the IDEA Eastside campus at 2519 Martin Luther King Drive. The event is a first-come first-serve basis and will include free backpacks with school supplies, free haircuts, braids, bikes and food distribution.
  • Harvey E. Najim Family YMCA: The Back-to-School Bash will be from 9 a.m.- noon on Aug. 17 at 3122 Roosevelt. School supplies will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis. The event is open to community.
  • Ingram Park Mall: The mall will host a Tax Free weekend celebration from Aug. 9 through Aug. 12 at 6301 Northwest Loop 410. On Aug. 9, a bounce house will be on-site at Dillard’s Court from 2- 4 p.m. A back-to-school supply giveaway, while supplies last, will be held at the JC Penny Courtyard from 11 a.m.- 6 p.m. along with a petting zoo at the children’s play area from 2- 6 p.m. on Aug. 10. Families can see a magician, get their face painted or have a balloon artist make them a cool balloon figure from 2-4 p.m. at the children’s play area on Aug. 11. On the last day of the celebration, there will be pottery painting at the children’s play area from 2- 4 p.m. on Aug. 12.
  • Last Chance Ministries: Last Chance Ministries will hold its free Back-To-School event from noon-4 p.m. on Aug. 10 at 303 Dartmouth Street. You can register here.
  • New Braunfels Food Bank: The back-to-school event will be from 10 a.m.- noon on Aug. 17 at the New Braunfels Food Bank at 1620 S Seguin Avenue. The food bank will offer a variety of supplies, and there will be activities as well. Spaces are limited. To register, click here.
  • San Antonio Park and Recreation- Miller’s Pond Community Center: The center will hold a free Back-to-school event from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. on Aug. 10 at 6175 Pearsall Road. The event is open to the community and includes school supply giveaways, haircuts, free shoes and outdoor activities.
  • Second Baptist Church: The backpack giveaway event will be from 3-5 p.m. on Aug. 9 at 3310 East Commerce St. The event will give out 100 backpacks, haircuts and there will be vendors along with the Spurs Coyote. Children must be present at the event.
  • South San Antonio ISD: The Back-to-School Bash will be from 1- 4 p.m. on Aug. 7 at the South San Antonio High School Gym and Cafeteria at 7535 Barlite Blvd. The bash will include school supplies, immunizations, haircuts and more. Children must be registered for the 2024-2025 school year to attend.
