Cernousek advances in match play at U.S. Women’s Amateur

Months after claiming the NCAA Championship individual title, Texas A&M golfer Adela Cernousek is making her way through the 124th U.S. Women’s Amateur.

Wednesday, Cernousek, the No. 9 amateur in the world, carded a match play 1-up to beat Vanderbilt’s Sarah Im and advance to the Round of 32 at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.

The French native will face No. 43 ranked Kaili Xiao in the second round of match play Thursday morning. Should she win, she will advance to the Round of 16, played later Thursday.

After the match drew even on hole No. 13, Cernousek birded No. 17 to take a one-hole lead. Both players bogied 18 to claim the match.

The winner of the tournament will be decided Sunday after a 36-hole final round. On the men’s side, former A&M golfer Sam Bennett claimed the men’s U.S. Amateur title in 2022.
