First week of school for many will feature daily highs near 100 degrees

WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Hot week ahead for those heading back to school
  • Daily highs near 100°, feeling more like 105°+
  • No notable rain chances
FORECAST DETAILS:

Hope you’ve had a great weekend!

Our ‘heat high’ will very much be in control this week, leading to a hot and dry forecast as many kids get ready to head back to school.

Starting with Sunday evening, temperatures will gradually fall through the 90s and eventually into the 80s later tonight under mostly clear skies. Good viewing conditions for any night owls wanting to test their luck to try and spot the Perseid meteor shower! (More on that below)

Monday starts off near 80° around sunrise with partly-to-mostly cloudy skies. Plenty of sunshine takes over in the afternoon, helping high temperatures near the triple digit mark. Factor in the humidity, and heat indices will likely climb to at least 105° in many locations.

Highs near 100°, feeling closer to 105° expected Monday afternoon.

This will be the theme each afternoon this week, so make sure that the kiddos are staying hydrated for school recess and afternoon sports/band practices!

Minus a stray afternoon shower closer to the coast, rain chances are unfortunately out of the forecast this week.

We’ll send out additional updates as we push through this hot stretch of days!

7 day forecast as of 8/11/24.

PERSEID METEOR SHOWER:

The Perseid meteor shower peaks overnight Sunday and into early Monday morning.

According to NASA, it’s possible that some sky gazers manage to see 50 to 100 meteors per hour under the right conditions. The best window to view starts around midnight and lasts until dawn. While tonight is the peak, the Perseids are active from mid-July through the first of September.

The *best* viewing conditions will be found in rural areas and away from city lights. Mostly clear skies are currently in the forecast around midnight tonight and into the very early morning hours of Monday, before some cloud cover works back in ahead of sunrise. Good luck!
