Taking care of Texas’ beautiful parks

AUSTIN (KXAN) — It’s not just the summer when people take their vacations — it’s all year. In other words, any time is a good time to visit any of the nearly 90 parks that adorn the state of Texas.

There are a few recommendations that visitors to our parks are encouraged to follow.

Rich Segal speaks with Shannon Casey about some park visitation tips. Casey is the marketing and outreach specialist for Take Care of Texas.

She speaks of the importance of having a plan before visiting. Proper planning includes things like what clothing and food to take. It’s also important visitors know what to do in case there is rain or a thunderstorm. She said it’s also important that visitors travel on durable surfaces.

Perhaps one of the most important suggestions is the proper disposal of waste materials and what to do when “nature calls.”

Another important recommendation is to respect wildlife. People need to remember they are guests in the parks, the home to wildlife. Don’t disturb them and they won’t disturb you.

Casey has other good ideas to share. If you need additional information, visit Take Care of Texas at the link below.
