Hit-and-run suspect caught after hitting another car, house in Dallas overnight, police say

 

A man died after being hit by a car in Dallas overnight. The suspected driver did not stop to provide aid.

DALLAS — A 47-year-old man died after being hit by a car in Dallas overnight, police said. 

Officers responded to an accident call at 1:45 a.m. on Aug. 18 at Prosperity Avenue and Stanley Smith Drive, according to a press release from Dallas police. 

The victim, 47-year-old Derrick Allen and an unidentified man were walking west on 2800 Prosperity Ave. when he was hit by a car that was driving quickly and attempting to pass another vehicle. Allen died at the scene, police said. 

The suspect was identified as 21-year-old Rodolfo Jamaica, according to police. Jamaica continued driving and did not stop to offer help, police said. 

Jamaica was arrested after hitting a house and a car in the 2400 block of Kathleen Avenue and coming to a stop. 

He was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter, police said. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
