Los Angeles Chargers players, personnel trapped in Downtown Dallas hotel elevator, team says

According to a social post from the Chargers, 15 people — both players and members of the team’s traveling party — were rescued from the elevator ‘one-by-one’.

DALLAS — Crews with Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) rescued 15 people associated with the Los Angeles Chargers — both players and members of the team’s traveling party — who were trapped in an elevator at The Westin hotel in Downtown Dallas.

The Chargers, who are in town for their final preseason matchup against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday, acknowledged in a social media post on Friday night that members of the team were stranded in an inoperable elevator in the team’s hotel.

According to DFR, crews responded at around 7:44 p.m. to reports of an elevator emergency at The Westin, located at 1201 Main Street.

DFR said an elevator technician made efforts to try and get the elevator working, but was not successful. Because of this, officials said, DFR deployed its Urban Search and Rescue team to the scene.

According to DFR, the elevator was stuck in a “blind shaft” somewhere between the third and fifteenth floors of the hotel.

Per to the Chargers’ social media post, those trapped on the elevator were assisted “one-by-one” by DFR team members “through [the elevator’s] ceiling panel and into an adjacent elevator,” at which point they were taken to safety.

“The Los Angeles Chargers thank Dallas Fire-Rescue for their quick response, professionalism and substantial efforts in ensuring everyone’s safety,” the Charges said on Facebook.

It is not yet clear which players were involved in the incident.

This is a developing story. More details will be added as they become available.
