FORT WORTH, Texas — A Fort Worth high school baseball star, who also happens to be the son of a Texas A&M football legend, has decommitted from the Aggies.
Jorvorskie Lane Jr., a junior catcher at Fort Worth’s Wyatt High School, announced his decision on X on Sunday afternoon, saying he’ll be “exploring my options” after talking it over with his family.
Lane — the No. 3 baseball prospect in the country for the Class of 2026, according to Perfect Game — was committed to play for the Aggies, where his father Jorvorskie Lane Sr. was a star running back in the late 2000s.
But in the wake of A&M coach Jim Schlossnagle leaving for Texas earlier this summer, it probably wasn’t a surprise that the younger Lane decided to open up his recruitment again.
Lane Jr. hit .588 with 57 runs batted in as a sophomore for the Wyatt Chaparrals, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He also stole 61 bases and compiled an on-base plus slugging percentage of 1.789. As one of the top prospects in the country, Lane Jr. could be in line for a lucrative signing bonus if he decides to go pro out of high school in a couple of years.
He isn’t too bad on the gridiron either, scoring five touchdowns as a sophomore receiver last year, according to MaxPreps.
His dad was a one-man wrecking crew at Texas A&M from 2005-2008, racking up 49 rushing touchdowns as a 285-pound running back. The elder Lane played three seasons in the NFL, playing with the Dolphins in 2012 and the Buccaneers in 2014 and 2015.
