Several children injured after East Central ISD bus crashes with big rig, district says

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – An East Central ISD school bus crashed against a big rig in east Bexar County, causing minor injuries to roughly 10 children, according to the school district.

The crash happened early Friday morning, in the 10500 block of U.S. Highway 87 East.

Brandon Oliver, East Central ISD’s director of Marketing and Communications, said many of the children’s injuries were scrapes and bumps. The district said the children could go to the hospital if needed, but only two students chose to do so.

Oliver said the information provided is preliminary and subject to change as more details become available.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said more than 30 students in total were on the school bus. Oliver said the kids involved can go home with parents if they would like.

Part of Highway 87 was shut down for some time due to the crash. The lanes of the highway have since reopened.

Authorities say no charges are expected to be filed as a result of the crash.
