NEW: Outrage Ensues After Veteran Attacked by Hamas Supporter Criminally Charged for Defending Himself

As RedState reported on Thursday evening, an Iraq war veteran named Scott Hayes was violently attacked by a Hamas supporter during a pro-Israel protest. The attacker was captured on video starting a verbal altercation by yelling across a street about “genocide” while making a false claim that 200,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza. He then charged through traffic and violently tackled the veteran.

A scuffle ensued with the Hamas supporter attempting to punch the victim in the head. At that point, the veteran discharged a single shot from a pistol he was concealed carrying. The Hamas supporter was reported to be in stable condition, the incident appeared to be a clear-cut case of self-defense.

Unfortunately, I warned in my original write-up that this occurring in the far-left State of Massachusetts could complicate matters, and now the veteran has been charged.

Calling this absurd is too kind. The Hamas supporter chose to start a verbal and physical confrontation with the pro-Israel protesters, dangerously tackling a man to the ground and then proceeding to try to bash his head in. Others tried to pull the attacker off but were unsuccessful. A single shot was what it took to keep the veteran from being seriously injured or beaten to death given this was all happening on concrete.

People were rightly perplexed and outraged at the development.

In many states, there wouldn’t even be a question as to whether this was self-defense. In Massachusetts, though, all common sense and reason can be thrown out the window. Recall that this is the same place where a woman was convicted for carrying a stun gun to defend herself against an abusive boyfriend, a decision so egregious that the Supreme Court had to step in.

Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan gave a press conference on this latest incident that only led to more confusion.

Ryan admits the matter is still under investigation and the police chief even comes out to ask for more evidence to be sent in, including video angles if people have them. So why was Hayes charged immediately? And why was the attacker, who is seen on video tackling and beating Hayes, not charged with anything?

Lastly, how is it a violation of someone’s constitutional rights to shoot them if they attack you? Apparently, in Massachusetts, you must submit to being beaten by left-wing lunatics lest you violate their rights by doing what it takes to stop them.

This entire story is insane, and we can only hope further investigation leads to these charges being dropped. On the other side, I can confidently predict there is no chance the attacker will ever be charged, though. That would invite the wrath of the pro-Hamas contingent, and Democrats in places like Massachusetts are subservient.
