Flames could be seen miles away. The fire closed Spencer Highway and nearby roadways and prompted evacuations in the area.

By early afternoon, Deer Park leaders confirmed the pipeline belongs to Energy Transfer.

It’s a natural gas pipeline. They said the gas had been shut off and that it will take hours for the gas inside the line to burn off.

Homes in the area are too hot for evacuees to return, community leaders said.

Sept. 15, 2024: My son and I were at the AFC urgent care waiting to be seen when we heard a loud boom. I turned around and saw a white SUV fly up into the sky and fell on the ground in flames and that’s when we realized the pipe burst. Everyone from the clinic started fleeing on foot away from the fire and the intensive heat. I had to leave my car at the clinic parking lot in order to get my son to safety. Luckily one of the employees was able to get me to safety at Aldi where my husband arrived to pick my son and I up.
