On a GoFundMe page, the family said she is currently out of the hospital and receiving outpatient care.
DALLAS — The family of 27-year-old Dallas Police Sr. Cpl. Karissa David, who was seriously injured in a shootout with a suspect on Aug. 29, provided an update on her recovery process and condition on a GoFundMe page.
According to Dallas PD, David responded to the scene of a shooting where suspect Corey Cobb-Bey had shot and killed Officer Darron Burks while he was sitting in his squad car.
Police said when David arrived at the scene, Cobb-Bey ran towards her and shot her multiple times as she exited her car. David was shot in the face during the exchange, according to police.
Another officer, Sr. Cpl. Jamie Farmer, was also injured in the shooting, but was treated and later released from the hospital, police said.
On Thursday, David’s family posted an update on the GoFundMe page they set up for her saying that she is out of the hospital and will be receiving outpatient care for several months.
“She has a big surgery back in the hospital next week on her jaw and teeth and various other specialist appointments scheduled,” the family said on GoFundMe.
According to the update, David is currently blind in both eyes.
The family said the money they receive from the GoFundMe will be used for home modifications, technology and devices that will be necessary for her living without vision.
In addition to these needs, the money will help pay for the constant transportation to and from the hospitals and care facilities, and anything else needed in her recovery.
The GoFundMe, which has a goal of $25,000, currently has raised $9,240 as of the time of this writing.
