After an Ellis County man went viral for purchasing a $4,000 guitar signed by Taylor Swift, has donated the guitar back to the non-profit he purchased it from.
WAXAHACHIE, Texas — A signed Taylor Swift guitar destroyed by an Ellis County man is up for sale on eBay just days after a video of the destruction went viral.
The incident, which has garnered millions of views across multiple platforms, shows a man grabbing a hammer and destroying a guitar decorated in the style of Swift’s Eras Tour.
The moment was captured at the Ellis County Wild Game Dinner in Waxahachie, Texas, Saturday night. The man won the guitar in an auction, paying $4,000 for the privilege of destroying it, Craig Meier, a spokesman for the group, told WFAA.
Now, the guitar is back up for sale on the auction site eBay. According to the post, the man who destroyed the guitar donated it back to the foundation to be auctioned off on eBay. The proceeds will go to children participating in “agriculture educational programs,” the post reads.
The proceeds from the original sale of the guitar went to Future Farmers of America, Meier said.
“It has been surprising to me how big of a deal people are making it out to be. It wasn’t meant to be mean or malicious,” Ellis County Wild Game spokesperson Craig Meier told WFAA. “He was just making a lighthearted statement showing disapproval of people in the entertainment industry trying to influence politics.”
So far 31 people have placed bids on the guitar and it is currently priced at $3,850 with six days remaining in the auction.
The guitar comes with a certificate of authenticity, according to the listing.
